Rant: Heard a guy at the supply yard say you should always soak bricks for a whole day

I was picking up a pallet in Tacoma last week and this older mason was telling a new guy to soak every brick for 24 hours before laying. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I've been doing this 15 years and I only wet them down for a few minutes unless it's crazy hot. Has anyone else found that soaking them that long just makes the mortar set weird?

My uncle's crew in Spokane swears by a quick five minute soak.

A five minute soak just doesn't seem long enough to me. The grime needs time to really loosen up for a proper clean. I always go for at least twenty minutes to get the best results.

My dad's old trick was a cold water rinse first.
