Ngl I almost lost a whole gable end last Tuesday because I skipped the wall ties on the second course

Wall ties on the second course are not optional for a reason. Wind load on a gable end is no joke, especially if that wall is holding up a rake overhang. Skip those and you are basically asking the whole thing to peel off in the first good gust.
