The neighbor's orchid talk made me ditch my fertilizer routine
Last week I was out front and overheard a guy telling his kid that orchids only need 'neglect and patience', no fancy feed. I've been dumping a 20-20-20 mix on my phalaenopsis every other Saturday for two months, thinking that was the secret. Turns out my roots are probably burnt and the leaves look pale because I was overdoing it. He said he waters with plain tap water that's sat out overnight and only feeds once during blooming season. So I flushed all my media yesterday and cut back to that simpler plan. Made me wonder how many other basic moves I've been missing because some YouTuber told me to buy a whole kit. Has anyone else had a random backyard tip beat years of following a product guide? I'm keeping a closer eye on the roots now, but I'd love to hear what your default care looks like.

Man, that hits home! I once stopped watering my snake plant entirely for six months because some neighbor swore it thrived on pure drought, and now it's somehow the healthiest thing I own.
