On one hand, my Boston ferns have never looked greener. On the other, my electric bill went up by about $20 a month. Has anyone else found a cheaper light that works just as well?

$20 a month extra on your bill? claire_gibson is calling that a fern subscription but that's a whole streaming service right there.

$300 sounds like a lot up front, but your plants are thriving. That extra $20 a month is basically a subscription for perfect ferns. Cheaper lights might keep them alive, but they rarely give you that deep, healthy green. Sometimes the right tool just costs more, and it looks like you bought the right one.
