Drip irrigation vs hand watering, my tomatoes finally took off

I used to spend 20 minutes every evening hand watering my 12 raised beds in Tucson, but the soil stayed dry and the plants looked stressed. Last month I put in a simple drip system with a timer for about $60, and now the water goes straight to the roots without waste. Has anyone else seen a bigger difference from how you water rather than what you add to the soil?

Wait, $60 for a drip system with a timer? That seems way too cheap for 12 raised beds. I just looked into doing drip for my 6 beds last spring and the parts alone were gonna run me like $150 at the big box store. Are you using the cheap 1/4 inch tubing and just running one line per bed? Because that price is honestly wild to me and I want to know your secret. Not saying I don't believe you, I just need the parts list because my back is killing me from hauling the hose around every night.
