My old way of making headbands was a total mess

For years I would just cut a strip of paper, fold it, and glue it in place before putting on the cover. It always felt weak and looked messy at the corners. About six months ago, I saw a video from a binder in Toronto who used a different method. Now I cut the headband material, usually a thin leather or cloth tape, about an inch longer than the spine. I glue it down the center first, let it dry, and then carefully fold and glue the extra length over the boards before I line the spine. The change is huge. It's way stronger and gives a much cleaner finish because the ends are hidden under the lining. Has anyone else tried a similar trick for getting neater headbands?

Honestly, @josepha32 is right, and your new method sounds way better than my old messy glue routine.

My kitchen drawer was a glue stick graveyard until last month.

Nice! That's a perfect example of finding a better way to do a small thing. It happens with cooking, fixing stuff around the house, everything. Makes you wonder what other simple tasks we're all doing the hard way.
