Just had a spine crack on a 200 page rebind, is wheat paste to blame or my press?
I was casing in a rebind last Tuesday and the spine cracked right at the hinge, and this was after 3 coats of wheat paste that felt tacky for way too long. Half of me thinks the paste ratio was off since I mixed it by eye, and the other half swears my nipping press is squeezing unevenly on the left side. How do you all test paste consistency before it touches a book, or am I the only one still eyeballing it?
