Traded a thriller for a gardening guide and now I'm hooked on soil pH
Picked up a beat-up intro to composting at the swap table last month just because the cover had a nice tomato on it, figured I'd skim it and pass it on. Instead I spent 3 evenings testing the dirt in my backyard patch with a $9 kit from Ace Hardware and found out my hydrangeas were blue because the ground is acidic. Has anyone else grabbed a random book on a whim and ended up changing their whole routine over it?

Right? I grabbed an old book on pickling once and now I can't eat a cucumber without thinking about brine. The pH thing is real though, once you see those test strips change color it's hard to unsee it. My tomatoes got way happier after I added some lime, so there's that. Funny how a random find sticks with you longer than the stuff you actually plan to read.
