The 1985 Maine hiking guide I almost tossed
My aunt gave me her old Appalachian Trail guide from 1985, and I figured the trail info was useless. But then I used it to cross-check a current map near Baxter Park, and the old side trails it listed were still there, just overgrown. Have you ever kept an outdated book around that turned out to point you somewhere good?

Kept a 1982 bird field guide way past its prime, and it sent me to a spot that wasn't even on newer maps. Turned out the old routes to the pond were still passable if you knew where to push through the brush. That guide's got more character than anything they print now.
