That $6 used copy of a childhood favorite hit different this time

Last month I grabbed a beat-up paperback from a swap bin at the library in Newark, same book I read back in 8th grade. Re-reading it at 41, I noticed the main character's choices looked way less brave and more stubborn, plus the ending I remembered as happy felt bittersweet. It made me wonder if other folks ever revisit old favorites and get a totally different story than the one they stored away. Has a reread ever flipped your opinion of a book you loved years ago?
