Our book club meeting in the park turned into a real argument over the ending of 'The Silent Patient'

We were at the picnic tables in Grant Park last month, and I said the twist felt cheap. My friend Sarah got really heated and said, 'You just didn't pay attention to the clues.' It went back and forth for twenty minutes, and now I'm nervous to share my real opinion on our next pick. How do you handle it when someone in the group gets super defensive about a book?

Wait, you guys were arguing about that ending for twenty whole minutes? That's a long time to be mad about a plot twist.

Did Sarah ever get that mad about a book before?

Grant Park? You were in public having that fight? I would have died of shame if strangers heard me yelling about a fictional therapist. That’s the real twist, everyone within earshot now thinks your book club is unhinged. I get being into a story, but taking it to a full blown park argument is next level. No wonder you’re nervous for the next meeting.
