I'm the only one in my book club who hated 'The Goldfinch'

Last month at our meetup in Portland, everyone was raving about Donna Tartt's writing style and the deep character arcs, but I just couldn't get into it. I found the plot dragged for 700 pages and the whole Las Vegas section felt pointless to me. I tried giving it a second chance three years ago when it won the Pulitzer, but I still felt the same way. Has anyone else been the odd one out on a super popular book?

Switching to audiobooks helped me push through Moby-Dick when everyone else loved it.

Hated that book too honestly. Couldn't get through the first chapter without zoning out. Audiobooks definitely make the dense stuff way more bearable.

The Portland setting actually makes me wonder if some of the appeal was about being in on a cultural moment rather than the book itself, because outside of those circles nobody talks about it much anymore.
