Hot take: I almost quit my book club after a 25 minute fight over whether the dad in Room was a villain
We were at Dana's place in Portland last Tuesday and two people actually stopped speaking to each other over it, so now I bring a one page question sheet to every meetup. Does your group have a rule for keeping discussion from turning into a shouting match, or is this just how it goes?
25 minutes? People stopped talking to each other over a fictional dad? That's wild. The whole point of Room is that the guy is a monster, sure, but Ma is the one telling the story, so of course he comes off that way. Sounds like your group needs the question sheet before someone else gets ghosted.
