Used to tape my drawings to the steel. Big mistake on a job in Gary.
For years I would tape my layout marks and templates right onto the beam before I started cutting. Worked fine until a humid day in Gary last summer when the tape just let go mid-cut. My whole reference line shifted about 3/8 inch and I didn't catch it until I was already burning through. Had to scrap that piece and eat the cost of a new one out of my own pocket, which was around $180. Now I spray adhesive the paper down and hit the edges with a staple gun for good measure. Takes an extra 30 seconds but I haven't had a single print slip since. Anyone else ever trust tape too much and pay for it? Wet conditions or dry, I'm curious what you guys do.

Tape let go in the middle of a cut?

Tape failing mid-cut is brutal especially when you're deep into a burn and don't catch the shift until it's too late. Spray adhesive plus staples sounds like overkill but I bet the peace of mind is worth the extra minute. Do you think the staple holes ever cause any issues with warping or distortion on thinner gauge steel when you're running a hot torch over them?
