I think the new safety rule about double-checking every weld is slowing us down too much.
Had a 3-inch steam line flange let go on a job in Tacoma last Friday because of a bad root pass. The foreman wants us to stop and get a second set of eyes on every single weld now, even the simple ones. I get the point, but that adds at least 20 minutes to every connection. Has anyone found a good middle ground that keeps things safe but doesn't kill the whole day's schedule?

Our foreman in Seattle tried that and we spent more time watching each other than actually welding.

Watching each other more than welding... come on, is that even true? Sounds like a bit of an excuse to me. Maybe the real problem was poor planning, not the idea itself. I've seen stuff like that work fine when it's set up right. People just hate new things sometimes.
