Finally beat my wife at Dominion after 47 straight losses and I'm weirdly emotional about it
So my wife and I bought Dominion back in March 2022 when we were stuck at home with a newborn. She picked it up way faster than me. Something about deck building just clicks in her brain. For 47 games in a row, 47, she won. I kept trying different setups, watched YouTube videos at lunch, even printed out a little strategy sheet I hid in my sock drawer so she wouldn't see it. Last Sunday night around 9pm at our kitchen table in Spokane, she pulled Witch three turns in a row and I thought I was done. But my Chapel thinning finally paid off and I grabbed three Provinces in four turns. She looked at my deck, counted the points twice, and just said 'well shoot.' I didn't even gloat, I just sat there grinning like an idiot. The final score was 42 to 39. Now she wants a rematch every night this week and I'm scared it was a fluke. Has anyone else had a game their partner just dominates them at forever?
Quick thing, the Witch thing actually hurt her more than you might think. Curse cards go in your deck, not hers, so those three turns she spent buying Witch were turns she wasn't buying money or Provinces. That's not luck on your end, that's her making a real mistake at the wrong time. My buddy does the same thing with Militia and wonders why he stalls out late.
Chapel thinning into three Provinces in four turns is just good play. Give yourself some credit. 42 to 39 is close but you closed it out when it counted.
The rematch every night thing is the actual danger though. She's gonna adjust now that she knows you can win. Good luck.
