Why does nobody talk about checking your anvil's rebound before buying used

Brought a 5lb ball bearing to check a 150lb Peter Wright last spring. Dropped it from about 10 inches and got maybe 6 back, walked away. Seller was annoyed but that anvil had a dead spot near the horn from a bad weld repair you couldn't see otherwise.
