Visited that old forge out in Harper's Mill last weekend and noticed their bellows intake was sucking in a ton of dust from the floor.

If you're running a cross-draft setup near a dirt floor like they had, check your bellows or blower intake height - mine was pulling grit into the fire at the same spot and it wrecked my weld quality after about 3 hours of work, has anyone else dealt with that intake placement issue?

I was in that same spot about a year ago with my own setup. Did you check if your bellows intake was sitting lower than the top of the forge table? I found that keeping the intake at least 18 inches off the ground cut the dust pickup by a solid 70 percent for me. What height is yours at right now? I had to build a little wooden riser for mine since the floor was so dry and dusty. Also, did you notice any pits in your steel after those three hours or was it more of a surface contamination issue?

Hold up, you really think a taller intake makes that big a difference? I had mine at like 2 feet off the ground and was still pulling dust into the steel, so it feels more like a forge table placement issue to me.
