Trying to fix a warped anvil face cost me a whole weekend
I was working on a big leaf spring project and noticed my hammer blows were bouncing weird. The anvil face had a low spot near the heel, maybe a quarter inch deep, from years of use. I figured I could just heat and hammer it flat myself. After two full days of heating, careful hammering, checking with a straight edge, and more heating, I finally got it close to level. What I thought would be a three hour job turned into about sixteen hours of work over Saturday and Sunday. Has anyone else tried to fix an anvil face, and what method worked for you?

My buddy welded up his anvil face and ground it flat.

That sounds like a brutal weekend project. I've heard those low spots can be a real pain to work out by hand. At least you got it sorted in the end.

My neighbor said he spent 14 hours just on the low spots in his garage floor. Fourteen hours! I would have lost my mind after the first two, lmao.
