PSA: spent $85 on a gas forge burner kit that couldn't get past orange heat
I grabbed one of those cheap burner kits online back in March because the reviews looked fine and I wanted a second forge for small work. Got it plumbed up with a new regulator and the flame stayed soft and bushy no matter how I tuned the air, and my 1084 stock barely hit orange after 15 minutes in the fire. Turns out the orifice was drilled way oversized and the flare was the wrong taper, so the whole thing ran rich and lazy. I ended up paying $85 plus $30 in fittings to learn that lesson, and I'm back to my old ribbon burner. Has anyone found a burner kit under $100 that actually gets steel up to welding heat, or should I just build one from scratch?
