I wasted $150 on cheap tongs before I learned my lesson
I bought a set of 4 tongs off an online marketplace for about $150 total. They looked decent in the photos but the jaws were poorly aligned and the rivets were loose. After the third pair slipped on a hot piece of steel I tossed them all in the scrap bin. Anyone else had bad luck with budget tongs or found a good source for quality ones that won't break the bank?

Ugh I feel your pain on this SO much. I bought a set of three "forged" tongs from a random website for around $120 and two of them had jaws that didn't even meet in the middle. The third one's rivet popped out on my second use and I almost dropped a hot billet on my foot. I finally broke down and bought a single good pair from a blacksmith supply shop for $45 and it's been a total game changer. Sometimes you just gotta buy the one quality tool instead of a pile of cheap junk.

Totally agree, one solid tool beats three duds every time in my workshop too.

@tara_patel those bargain tool sets always break when you least expect it, like that time a chisel handle flew right off.
