Heads up on that new quenching oil recipe going around

Saw a guy in a fabrication group swear by adding transmission fluid to used motor oil for quench, said it worked great on his leaf springs. I tried it on a 1084 blade last Tuesday and got stress cracks straight down the edge, nearly ruined a week of work. Has anyone else tested that mix or is this just a fast way to turn good steel into scrap?
