The six episode rule I stole from a bus driver's rant

I was on the 46 bus last Tuesday and this driver was venting to a passenger about how he can't watch any show that doesn't hook him by episode six, no exceptions. He said his whole life is schedules and routes, so he needs stories that respect his time. That stuck with me because I used to force myself through entire seasons out of some weird duty, like finishing a 10 season monster just to say I did it. Now I give every show exactly six episodes to earn me, and if it doesn't, I drop it without guilt. Last week I bailed on a hyped fantasy series around episode five and honestly felt lighter, like I got hours of my week back. Has anyone else set a strict cutoff number like that, or do you ride it out hoping for a late payoff?
