Watched a guy at the shop in Dayton true a wheel in 6 minutes and it made me rethink my whole bench setup
About 3 weeks ago a traveling mechanic named Ray stopped by our shop in Dayton and trued a badly bent rear wheel in 6 minutes flat. I had been fighting the same wheel for 40 minutes with the rim on the stand and the tire still on. His trick was pulling the tire and tube first so he could feel the spoke tension by hand. Now I want to know, how many of you pull the tire before truing or do you just leave it on and eyeball it?

That's brutal, forty minutes fighting a wheel that Ray knocked out in six. Sounds like you got a front row seat to how the pros do it.
