Watched a guy at the co-op over-tighten every single spoke on a wheel for 20 minutes straight
He was cranking them way past the recommended 4-5 Nm, and the rim was starting to look like a potato chip. How do you politely tell someone they're about to ruin a perfectly good Mavic rim?

That's a tough spot to be in for sure. Maybe just ask if they've checked the tension with a gauge lately. Sometimes people get in a zone and forget the basics. A quick mention of spoke wind-up could save that rim.

Honestly that sounds a bit over the top for most situations. A lot of wheels get built just fine without getting that deep into the details. It's probably not worth stressing over unless the wheel is already acting weird.

I saw a guy do that once and the whole wheel just went out of true in a week. It's painful to watch a good rim get wrecked.
