Walked into a shop in Denver and saw an old frame I worked on 9 years ago
That KHS I repainted and rebuilt back in 2015 was hanging on the repair rack with a cracked chainstay and rusted-out bottom bracket. The owner said it's been ridden daily through every winter since I did the original job, which is basically a lifetime for that kind of steel. Anyone else ever run into a bike you worked on way back and get a weird sense of pride mixed with dread about how it's holding up?

Funny how that works, right? I once spotted a fixie I'd built up in like 2012 that had been totally repainted by someone else and it was sitting outside a coffee shop with a bent fork. I honestly felt a little betrayed, like they'd abandoned my kid and let another family raise it. But also, the dread is real because I immediately started mentally going through my old welds and wondering if they were gonna crack while I was standing there. It's a weird mix of, "hell yeah that thing still rolls" and "please don't explode in front of me." You put your name on that work in a way, so seeing it beat up feels like a personal review.
