Snapped chain at 6 AM on the Hiawatha Trail, no spare quick link

I was in Helena last Saturday, just climbing the first pitch of the logging road when my 11-speed chain snapped clean between the derailleur and cassette. No tools, no spare link, and my phone was dead, so I had to walk two miles back to the truck with the chain wrapped around my hand. Does anyone keep a mini chain tool bolted under their saddle, or is that just asking for it to rattle off?

Under saddle is fine til you need it, then it's a miracle. Rattle off, whatever, beats the walk.
