Is there still room for old-school friction shifters in a world of electronic groupsets?

Some say friction shifters are clunky and outdated (you know, like preferring a manual typewriter), while others argue they're reliable and simple to fix. What's your take on keeping classic tech alive in modern shops?

What's so bad about a little mechanical feel? They NEVER fail when you're miles from nowhere, unlike fancy electronics. That reliability is PRICELESS for real riders.

Absolutely! My old bike's kickstart got me going after a flood when my friend's electric start was dead in the water. We were stranded overnight, but that simple mechanical engine fired up first try in the morning. You just can't beat that when things get rough.

Man nothing beats trusting simple parts when you're stuck, right? @the_william gets it - that's why my old truck's carburetor still gets the job done.
