Rant: spent 2 hours at 11pm trying to get my white noise app to loop without a gap

So last Tuesday I'm in bed at 11pm, dead tired, and I decide my rain sounds need to loop perfectly or I won't sleep. I download this free app, set the timer for 8 hours, and there is this tiny pause between loops that my brain latches onto like a car alarm. I spend 2 hours messing with crossfade settings, re-downloading the audio file, and even trying a second app that wants $4 a month. Finally I give up and just put my phone face down on the nightstand, and the muffled rain sound is fine. Why do these apps never get looping right, is there one that just works out of the box?
