Bought a $200 pellet smoker on clearance, total regret

That cheap smoker can't hold temp for more than 20 minutes, so my brisket turned into jerky after 8 hours of babysitting it. Anyone else get burned by a budget pit that promised way more than it delivered?

And that welder's blanket trick @ryantorres mentioned does help, I tried it on my own clearance pit from last summer. But honestly, a blanket can't fix a faulty controller or a leaky door gasket. I ended up spending more on mods and accessories than I saved on the smoker itself, which kind of defeats the purpose of buying cheap in the first place. My buddy's Traeger holds 225 for 12 hours without him touching it, while my bargain bin special keeps me running back and forth every 30 minutes like a crazy person.

A welder’s blanket helped my cheap smoker hold steady temps.

That's rough, man, we've all been burned by a bargain that turned out to be a brick.
