Tried a 0.5 guard fade on a walk in and had to fix it for 40 mins
So this guy walks in Monday wanting a skin fade but says his last barber made it too short up top. I figured I'd start with a 0.5 guard instead of my usual no guard to be safe. Big mistake, it left a weird line at the bottom and I ended up going back over the whole thing with a razor anyway. Anyone else ever try to play it safe on the bottom and just make more work for yourself?
I did the same thing with a 1 guard once on a kid whose mom said he wanted it "not too short." Spent ten minutes blending that line out with a .5 and then a trimmer. By the end he was basically bald anyway. His mom looked at me like I'd lied to her. Now I just ask two questions up front: how short on the sides and how short on top. If they say "safe" I still start where I know it needs to be and work down. Going back over it twice takes way longer than just doing it right the first time.
