Spent $45 on cake strips, my layers still look like pancakes

Grabbed those fancy aluminum cake strips after seeing them all over TikTok, but my chocolate cake still domed so bad I had to slice off half of it just to stack. Is there a real trick to getting flat layers or did I just waste a whole sheet of parchment trying to wrap mine wrong?
