Vent: tried to bake cookies for my niece's birthday party and the butter was still cold
So I pulled out the butter to soften it about an hour before I started, but my kitchen runs cold this time of year so it was still hard as a rock when I went to cream it with the sugar. I panicked and microwaved it for 20 seconds, which turned half of it into a puddle of grease. The dough came out looking like wet sand and the cookies spread into one giant blob on the sheet. I scraped the whole mess into the trash around 9pm and drove to the Jewel-Osco for those pre-made dough squares. How do you actually get butter to room temp fast without melting it?
