My mom's old trick of tossing a slice of bread in the brown sugar bag, took me 15 years to actually try it

Kept buying rock hard brown sugar for years and chucking it, then dug out an old bag with a stale piece of white bread in it and it was still soft, so now I keep a slice in every bag and havent had a brick since, has anyone tried this with powdered sugar or does that just turn into a paste?
