My butter was too soft and 3 dozen cookie sheets turned into one giant pancake
So last Friday I was rushing to bake cookies for my kid's class party, and I left the butter on the counter way too long while I ran to the store. By the time I got back it was basically melted, but I used it anyway because I had 24 kids waiting on me. The first tray spread into one flat sheet about the size of a dinner plate, edges burnt and middle raw. I chilled the dough for 45 minutes, scooped it with a small ice cream scoop, and suddenly they baked up thick and chewy like they were supposed to. The trick was the dough temp, not the recipe, and I wasted two trays figuring that out. Does anyone else check butter temp with a finger poke or do you actually use a thermometer?
