My old boss said my starter would die if I skipped feedings, and here we are 8 months later
Back in February my old boss at the shop in Dayton said a starter needs fed every single day or it turns to poison, no exceptions. I went on a two week trip to see my sister and just left mine in the fridge with one big feed before I left. Came home expecting a sad gray puddle and instead it doubled in 5 hours when I fed it. I've been baking with it all summer and the loaves have been the best I've made, nice open crumb and all. Now I'm wondering how much of the daily feeding thing was just his way of doing it and not a real rule. Anyone else had a starter sit in the cold for a while and come back stronger than before?
