Why does nobody talk about the unskippable 9-minute drum solo in 'The Gangster's Nephew'?
Last Saturday my buddy Dave put on this 1989 action movie he found at a pawn shop for $3. It's about a mob accountant who becomes a vigilante, but the plot barely matters because every scene stops dead for these bizarre musical numbers. The worst one is a drum solo that goes on for nine full minutes, with the lead actor just standing in a warehouse looking at a crate. I checked my watch twice and it never moved. We were laughing so hard we rewound it three times to catch the drummer's face, which never changes expression once. Has anyone else found a movie where the director just gave up and let someone jam for no reason? I need more of that energy, but I don't want to waste another $3 on a gamble.

Movies like that are basically time capsules of someone getting paid to not care anymore. It reminds me of how every office has that one guy who drags a 10 minute story out of a 2 minute update, just because he can. Or how some restaurants keep a dish on the menu that nobody orders but the cook refuses to cut, probably out of pride or spite. That drum solo is the same thing, the director probably had a buddy who hadn't played in years and said "let him cook" without any plan. Nine minutes of nothing happening is almost punk rock in how bold it is. You gotta respect the audacity even if the movie is trash. Ever find a song on an album that's just pure filler but somehow it's the best track?
