The Rifftrax trick that fixed my boring movie nights
For months my group kept picking these painfully slow horror flicks that everyone fell asleep on. Last Saturday I threw on a Rifftrax version of The Room instead of the usual serious picks and suddenly nobody was on their phone. The commentary acts like a safety net, you can laugh at the movie or with the jokes and it never falls flat. Now I just check if a bad movie has a Rifftrax or MST3K episode before I even suggest it. Has anyone else found a commentary track that saved a movie that was too dull to finish?

The first time I tried it was with Birdemic and I fully expected to hate it, thought it would feel like cheating or lazy watching. But the commentary actually made me notice how insane the editing is, like the birds just disappearing mid-scene which I never caught before. Now I kinda refuse to watch certain movies without the riff track, it's like the only way I can get through them without checking my phone every five minutes.
