Serious question, a $12 window feeder beat my $45 pole setup for cardinals
I put up a cheap suction cup feeder on my kitchen window here in Lincoln back in March, mostly just to see if anything would show up, and I've gotten cardinals, chickadees, and a downy woodpecker on it while my fancy pole feeder 20 feet away sits mostly empty except for house sparrows. The window one wins because it's high enough that the neighborhood cats can't reach it and close enough that the birds get used to my face in about a week, where the pole feeder took almost a month before anything trusted it. Has anyone else noticed birds picking the close, low tray over a pole setup, or did I just get lucky with my yard?
