Water filter clogged for 2 days before I figured out the trick

I was on the Lost Coast Trail last month and my filter slowed to a drip after day one. I flushed it, backwashed it, even took it apart, still useless. Turns out I needed to shake it sideways while backflushing, not just pump straight up and down. Took me 48 hours of frustration and a lot of creek water before a guy at a campsite showed me. Anyone else hit a filter block that took forever to solve?
