Tried going stoveless on the JMT last summer and actually loved it
I figured I'd get sick of cold food after day 3, but packing tortillas, cheese, and tuna packets saved me like half a pound of gear weight. Anyone else ditch the cook kit and just go cold soak or no-cook?

Started noticing everywhere how much stuff we carry that we don't really need. It's like we all keep packing for emergencies that never happen, in hiking and just regular life.

Yeah @fiona985 it's like we're all just prepping for some disaster that's never coming. I carry so much junk in my purse for "just in case" and it never gets used.

The whole "prepping for disasters that never come" thing feels a little dramatic to me, honestly. Like yeah I have a random emergency kit in my car with a blanket and some granola bars but it's not some big life crisis. Half the junk I carry is just because I forget to take it out, not because I'm planning for the apocalypse.
