Got lost on the Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas for 4 hours because my phone kept dying at every ridge
Two weeks ago I hiked the Eagle Rock Loop in the Ouachitas and my phone battery kept dropping to 1% every time I climbed up to check the map, leaving me to guess which way to turn at three different spots. I finally switched to printing the route on paper and taping it to my trekking pole, and I finished the whole 27 mile loop without a single wrong turn. Does anyone else still bring a paper map on trails they have done five times, or am I just being paranoid?
