Had a total forehead slap moment about my credit card rewards last week in Seattle

I was at a coffee shop near Pike Place and overheard two guys talking about how they both have the same card I do (you know, the one with the points). One guy was bragging he's getting 3% back on everything and I was like wait what? I've had this card for like 4 years and have been getting 1% this whole time. Turns out there was a tier upgrade I never activated because I just threw away the envelope. I missed hundreds of dollars over the years because I ignored a piece of mail. Has anyone else missed something obvious like this with their own bank cards?

My buddy did the exact same thing with his Southwest card, had the basic version for years before realizing he could have been getting free companion passes. Made him feel like a dummy when he finally checked the fine print online.
