The Tuesday I pulled a pitot tube and found a mud dauber condo inside
Last Tuesday started normal until the left pitot heat check failed on a 172 in for annual, so I pulled the tube expecting a bad element. Instead a mud dauber had built a full nest right in the opening, packed tight, and there was a dried-up larva sitting in it like it paid rent. I stood there on the ladder for a minute just staring, because the last guy signed off the pitot covers were installed. Same week a static line on a Cherokee had a spider egg sac in the fitting, so I got two bugs in three days. I blew everything out, replaced the element, and did a full leak check, and it all passed fine. Now I keep a flashlight in my shirt pocket for every walkaround. What is the strangest thing you have pulled out of a pitot or static system?
