Pro tip: the old avionics guy in Wichita who showed me his wire marking trick
I was doing a harness repair on a King Air at a hangar in Wichita last month and an older tech named Dale watched me for a bit, then said "your labels will peel by summer, write the number on both ends of the shrink." He pulled out a fine tip Sharpie and showed me how he marks a wire before he cuts it, so even if the tag falls off the number is still on the insulation. I tried it on the rest of that harness and it saved me about an hour of buzzing out lines. Small thing, but my last 10 squawks have been clean on the first try. Has anyone else picked up a marking habit like that from an old timer?
