Bought a $400 used oscilloscope off eBay and it was dead on arrival

I figured I'd save some cash on a older Tektronix for bench work, but it just showed a blank screen no matter what I did. Has anyone else had luck getting their money back from eBay on bad test gear?

Eh, a blank screen doesn't necessarily mean it's dead, could just need an adjustment.

Blank screen on used test gear usually means the previous owner knew exactly what they were doing when they listed it. Fuses and knobs don't fix a dead main board or a blown PSU, and that's usually what you're dealing with. It's a gamble plain and simple, not a "minor adjustment" waiting to happen.

Oh come on, a blank screen on used test gear is basically a greeting card. Might just need a new fuse or a couple knobs turned the right way.
