PSA: I used to call 6 brokers for a single move, now I just check one board
Back in 2019 I spent a whole Saturday dialing brokers in Ohio for a Civic going to Phoenix and got quoted $1,150, $980, and one guy who said $2,400, so now I pull up a review board first and pick from names people vouch for, which saved me $300 and about four hours on my move to Tucson in March, but I'm curious if anyone still trusts the old phone-around method.
My buddy tried the phone-around thing last summer and it went bad for him. He got a lowball quote from some guy who seemed cool on the phone, then the dude showed up two days late with a different truck and tacked on extra fees at pickup. He paid way more than the board price he skipped over because he thought calling around would get him a better deal. The part that got me was he had no way to check the guy since all he had was a phone voice and a promise. At least with reviews you see the train wrecks before you get on.
