Hot take: the broker who quoted me $650 on the phone in Charlotte turned into $1,180 at pickup, and I should've walked
Booked a move from Charlotte to Denver back in March. Guy on the phone was real smooth, said $650, said they'd get my truck in 3 to 5 days. Signed the paperwork. Then the actual hauler shows up and says the broker underbid it and now it's $1,180 if I want it on the truck today. I paid it because I had a job starting. But here's the thing that stuck with me, the driver pulled me aside and said "son, if the phone price is more than a hundred under the rest, it's not a price, it's bait." I've told three people that line since. Anybody got a way to spot the bait before you pay a deposit?
