The 'too dancy' review that made me rebuild my demo routine
I had a customer in Austin tell me my pressure washing demo looked like I was trying to sell a dance class, not clean concrete. They said I moved around too much and never let the machine do the talking. So I stripped my demo down to three fixed positions and a timer, now I show the before and after on a 2 foot square patch first. It feels boring as hell, but that one comment cut my average demo time from 14 minutes to 8. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you completely trash a process you thought was perfect?
Man, yes! I had a guy watch me go through my whole window cleaning pitch and he flat out told me I talk too much and he stopped listening after the first minute. That stung but he was right. I cut my whole thing down to showing him one dirty window and one clean one side by side, then I shut up and let him look. My close rate went up almost overnight. Sometimes the best feedback is the stuff you hate hearing. You think you're being helpful by explaining everything but really you're just making people tired.
