My glove box meltdown in Austin changed how I pack for road trips

Last July I left a lighter and a can of soda in my truck's glove box during a 4 hour drive across Texas. The heat made the soda explode and the lighter melted onto my registration papers, which I needed for a traffic stop near Round Rock. Cop asked why my paperwork smelled like burnt plastic, and I had nothing to say. Now I keep important documents in a zip pouch in the center console, but has anyone else had electronics or food wreck their car storage in summer heat?
